Nairobi–Amboseli is around 4.5–6 hours. Amboseli–Tsavo West is around 3.5–5 hours on the chosen operational route. Tsavo West–Diani is around 340–400 km and 6–8 hours or longer, with stops and coast traffic. This is a substantial travel day managed with an early departure and an included packed lunch. Final airport pickup is calculated from the flight rather than a fixed daily time.

Private drives on the two full wildlife days and conditional arrival-afternoon outings. The guided springs visit is included when open and suitable. Transfer driving between parks and to the coast is not counted as continuous wildlife viewing.

Amboseli and Tsavo West national-park access for the planned sequence, plus the planned Mzima Springs visit and required guiding arrangement when it operates. Tsavo East and optional marine-park visits are not included.

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi and settle in

Complete entry formalities and collect your luggage before meeting the representative at the agreed landside meeting point. Meet the road-safari plan before an early start towards Amboseli. There is no additional park visit on the arrival day. Dinner is included; for a late landing we arrange an appropriate late or light meal with the property rather than assume the restaurant will remain open. No attraction or game drive is scheduled today.

Day 2: Drive south from Nairobi to Amboseli

Planned start: Approximately 07:30–08:00 after breakfast.

Travel in your private safari vehicle with the driver-guide who accompanies the road section. Have comfort breaks on the way and an included lunch at the lodge or a planned packed meal if the drive runs late. Check into the room and rest. An afternoon game drive around 15:30–18:00 is planned where arrival and park timings allow. Begin with the wetland edges and surrounding open country rather than trying to cover every part of Amboseli immediately. Dinner is at the lodge.

Day 3: Amboseli’s elephants and wetland habitats

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30 for the morning drive.

Start early for a private drive, arranging breakfast at the lodge or as a pack. Elephants are an important reason to visit, but the day also leaves room for birds, grazing animals and the way wildlife uses water. Return for lunch and downtime, then go out again around 15:30–18:00. Your guide chooses the route within the park rules and current conditions. Mountain views depend on cloud and light. Have dinner and pack for the shorter inter-park road stage tomorrow.

Day 4: Drive from Amboseli into Tsavo West

Planned start: Approximately 08:00–08:30 after breakfast.

To: Tsavo West National Park

Leave Amboseli after breakfast and cross into a different landscape of Tsavo West. The movement is a transfer, even though wildlife may be seen on some sections. Reach the lodge for an included lunch, or take the meal as packed if required. Settle in and rest before a possible afternoon private drive around 15:30–18:00. The more varied cover and terrain call for patient looking; Tsavo is not a second copy of Amboseli’s open wetland scene. Return for dinner.

Road movement: Approximately 150–200 km / 3.5–5 hours between the planned areas, depending on the permitted gate and road. Rough surfaces and entry formalities can make it longer; the exact route is reconfirmed for conditions.

Day 5: Tsavo West and Mzima Springs when accessible

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30; the guide sets the springs visit around access and heat.

Combine a private wildlife drive with the planned guided Mzima Springs visit when the site is open and conditions permit. The spring environment adds a water-and-ecology perspective to the broader park landscape. Follow the guide and ranger instructions on any walking section; neither hippo viewing nor an underwater sighting is guaranteed. Breakfast is arranged around the morning route. Return for lunch and rest, then take a further afternoon drive if you wish. Dinner is at the lodge. If the walking visit cannot operate, the guide uses a suitable alternative vehicle route rather than claim equivalent privileged access elsewhere.

Day 6: The road journey from Tsavo West to Diani

Planned start: Approximately 07:00–07:30 after an early breakfast.

Leave early with an included packed lunch and allow regular comfort stops. This is the principal coast-transfer day, not a morning safari followed by a full beach afternoon. The drive moves from the national-park setting to the busy coast corridor before reaching Diani. Arrive in the afternoon or early evening as conditions allow, check into the beachfront accommodation and settle in. Your safari driver-guide completes the road chapter here; the departure-airport transfer is arranged separately with a private vehicle. Ordinary dinner is included at the coast property.

Have breakfast if flight timing permits, check your bags and settle personal room charges before the private transfer. We work backwards from your airline’s reporting time rather than advertise one departure time for every traveller. The package ends at Mombasa airport. An international departure from the coast may avoid a Nairobi return, but flight availability and ticket connections must be checked before you book the onward ticket. A Nairobi positioning flight or an extra overnight, if needed, is a separately agreed addition.

Road movement: Allow roughly 55–90 km depending on the chosen route and approximately 1.5–3 hours for the transfer, with additional disruption allowance when required. The driver selects the appropriate road/bypass route; a ferry crossing is not a fixed part of this package.

When to travel

The generally drier January–February and June–October periods can help road operations, though weather and coast conditions remain variable. Longer rains can slow the park roads, while lush Tsavo vegetation may make some wildlife harder to see. Amboseli’s water habitats and Tsavo West’s varied terrain offer different experiences. Diani swimming and marine outings depend on local weather, tides and ability rather than a guaranteed calm sea.

Who this journey suits

This is a southern Kenya road-and-coast journey for travellers who prefer to avoid bush flights and want four nights at the beach. Families must be comfortable with the long coast-transfer day and the camp or lodge age and room rules. Couples can add a more private room or special meal without turning the whole route into a luxury classification. It does not include the Mara or migration-focused viewing.

Family prices are individually configured against ages at travel, room occupancy, flight rules where applicable, park fees and the vehicle required. Do not apply the adult-sharing figure to a child or assume that two children can use the same room arrangement at every camp. A six-adult case is not a family quotation.

Practical information and booking

Luggage, access and preparation

No bush-flight allowance applies to the base route. Soft luggage still makes a private vehicle easier to load, especially with six travellers. Discuss total bag volume, child seating and bulky equipment before confirming the vehicle; road travel does not mean unlimited luggage.

The road distance, vehicle step, park tracks and Mzima walking surfaces need individual assessment. Tell us about mobility or stamina limits in advance; the springs walk can be omitted or adapted while retaining a suitable vehicle programme. Beach access also depends on the chosen room and paths.

Bring light layers, sun protection, practical footwear, a camera and binoculars if you use them. Early game drives can feel cool. Confirm charging arrangements for essential equipment; a property offering electricity or Wi-Fi does not guarantee continuous power or a strong connection in every room or wildlife area. Tsavo West. The planned lodge, Mzima Springs visit and road sequence are based there. Tsavo East would require a separately scoped route change.

Are there any safari flights?

No scheduled bush flights are included. The safari travels privately by road from Nairobi through Amboseli and Tsavo West to Diani, then has a private final transfer to Mombasa airport.

Is Mzima Springs guaranteed to operate?

No. The guided visit is planned and included when the site is open and conditions allow. Access, walking suitability and required guiding are checked. If it cannot operate, the guide uses an appropriate alternative wildlife route rather than promise an unavailable experience.

Can we see the Great Migration on this safari?

This route does not visit the Maasai Mara, so it is not a Mara migration itinerary. Its themes are Amboseli wildlife and wetlands, Tsavo West’s varied landscape and Diani.

Can we add the Mara balloon option?

The Mara balloon experience is not applicable to this itinerary because the Mara is not visited. Optional extras here focus on suitable coast activities, rooms or separately confirmed local experiences.

Is the coast stay all inclusive?

No. Breakfast and ordinary dinner are included for the four Diani nights. The transfer-day lunch is included; lunches on the three full beach days, drinks and optional marine activities are additional unless explicitly listed.

Is it suitable for a family with younger children?

It depends on ages, room policies, seating needs and tolerance for the long road days. A private vehicle permits stops but cannot shorten the distance. Family prices are individually configured rather than inferred from the adult-sharing price.

Can we bring more luggage than on a fly-in safari?

There is no bush-flight weight rule in the base package, but the vehicle still has a finite luggage volume. Confirm bag sizes for your party, especially six adults or travellers with bulky equipment.

Can we fly home directly from Mombasa?

A suitable coast departure may work, depending on the destination and operating flights. The base includes the private transfer to Mombasa airport, not the onward ticket. Check the route before booking; a Nairobi connection is not automatically included.

Can the long coast drive be replaced with air?

An alternative can be investigated against the actual available network, transfer points and cost. It is not assumed to be a direct flight from the lodge, and it is not included in the road package’s base price.
