Your arrival transfer follows the international flight. The Mara-to-coast day requires an early camp checkout if reserve transit rules dictate it, even when the flight leaves later. Allow waiting at the airstrip. Ukunda is the arrival airport for Diani; the final included departure transfer goes to Mombasa airport, around 1.5–3 hours by road depending on route and traffic. An onward flight is not included.

Private reserve drives on arrival when timing permits and on two full Mara days. There is no promised departure-morning game drive before the coast flight.

Maasai Mara National Reserve access for the three planned safari viewing days and the required access arrangements for the confirmed departure routing. Marine-park access is not included because no marine excursion is part of the base package.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi and settle in

Complete entry formalities and collect your luggage before meeting the representative at the agreed landside meeting point. Your joining instructions identify the person/contact to use if you cannot immediately find the driver. Travel privately to your accommodation, complete check-in and use the remaining time to rest. A short orientation covers the Mara flight, baggage and the onward beach stay. There is no compulsory Nairobi attraction today. Dinner is included; for a late landing we arrange an appropriate late or light meal with the property rather than assume the restaurant will remain open. No attraction or game drive is scheduled today.

Road movement: Approximately 15–25 km from JKIA to the planned Nairobi base; allow around 30–90 minutes after meeting your driver. This excludes immigration, baggage reclaim and customs. Traffic or road works can extend the transfer.

Day 2: Fly from Wilson to the Maasai Mara

Planned start: Approximately 08:00–08:30 pickup for the planned 10:00 service; final timing follows the flight confirmation.

To: Talek-area Mara camp

Have breakfast and transfer privately to Wilson, allowing time for baggage weighing and check-in. Your safari guide meets the confirmed landing strip in the Mara and brings you to the Talek-area camp. Lunch and a chance to settle in come first. An afternoon private reserve drive around 15:30–18:00 is planned if the arrival leaves enough time. Return for dinner and agree tomorrow’s game-drive and meal arrangements. The aircraft is shared; the booked safari vehicle is reserved for your party.

Road movement: The nearby accommodation–Wilson transfer is approximately 5–10 km / 15–30 minutes before check-in. At the Mara end, allow roughly 20–60 minutes from the selected airstrip to camp.
Scheduled-air movement: Shared scheduled Wilson–Maasai Mara flight; the current published morning pattern is approximately 10:00–11:00. Olkiombo or another camp-compatible airstrip is selected with the carrier; intermediate stops may apply. Pack around 15 kg combined luggage per traveller in soft bags; the ticketed carrier’s allowance controls. Cameras count towards the applicable allowance; extra equipment needs prior arrangement.

Day 3: Your first complete Mara wildlife day

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30 for the morning outing.

To: Same Mara camp

Set out early with your private driver-guide. Breakfast can be at camp or packed by prior agreement. The day can be a morning drive, lunch and rest at camp, then a second drive around 15:30–18:00. Alternatively, take a picnic lunch for a longer reserve circuit. That choice depends on what interests you and what the guide considers worth the driving time. Watch the behaviour you encounter rather than work through a promised animal checklist. Dinner is back at camp.

Day 4: A second Mara day before the coast

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30, adjusted with your guide.

Use today to revisit a worthwhile wildlife area or change focus to landscapes, birds or a longer observation. The default is a morning and afternoon drive with lunch and a rest at camp, but a full-day picnic can be agreed within the included access. Seasonal herd movements may shape the route; neither their exact location nor a river crossing is guaranteed. Over dinner, the camp reconfirms your coast flight, airstrip and departure access arrangements. Have bags ready tonight because the airstrip handover can require an early checkout tomorrow.

Day 5: Fly from the Mara to Ukunda and settle in Diani

Planned start: Plan around 08:30–09:00 camp departure; the confirmed reserve transit and airstrip reporting requirements control.

Have breakfast, check out and transfer to the strip without promising a departure-day game drive. Take an included packed lunch or the meal arrangement agreed for the final flight. After landing at Ukunda, collect your bags and meet the private transfer driver. Settle into your beachfront accommodation and use the remaining afternoon for rest or a first look at the ocean. Ordinary dinner is included. This is a travel day; it does not count as one of the three full beach days.

Road movement: Allow roughly 20–60 minutes from camp to the chosen Mara strip. An early strip arrival, provisionally by about 09:30–10:00, may be necessary under departure/transit rules and creates waiting time. Ukunda–Diani accommodation is about 5–10 km / 15–30 minutes.
Scheduled-air movement: Shared scheduled Mara–coast service, with Ukunda booked for Diani. The published service pattern is around late morning to early afternoon, approximately 11:30–13:45 across coast stops. Final order, strip calls and timing are confirmed; allow roughly 5–7 hours from camp checkout to the beach property. Swimming depends on the tide, sea conditions and your ability; use local advice each day and supervise children closely. There is no compulsory excursion and no promised marine-wildlife encounter.

Have breakfast if flight timing permits, check your bags and settle personal room charges before the private transfer. We work backwards from your airline’s reporting time rather than advertise one departure time for every traveller. The package ends at Mombasa airport. An international departure from the coast may avoid a Nairobi return, but flight availability and ticket connections must be checked before you book the onward ticket. A Nairobi positioning flight or an extra overnight, if needed, is a separately agreed addition.

Road movement: Allow roughly 55–90 km depending on the chosen route and approximately 1.5–3 hours for the transfer, with additional disruption allowance when required. The driver selects the appropriate road/bypass route; a ferry crossing is not a fixed part of this package.

A balloon morning replaces part of the usual drive programme and needs a separate transfer plan; it is not an additional full safari day.

A Mara balloon flight, a room with a different outlook at Diani, special dining or celebration arrangements, and suitable marine excursions. Snorkelling, diving and boat trips are not included merely because the property is on the beach.

When to travel

January–February can suit a warm safari-and-coast trip; June–October often works for the safari stage but coast conditions, wind and tides still matter. March–May commonly has longer rains, and shorter rainy periods can affect parts of October–December. The Mara’s resident wildlife supports visits beyond migration season. Choose dates for the combined journey rather than treating a wildlife calendar as a guarantee of beach weather.

Who this journey suits

The focused Mara chapter and four-night coast stay suit couples, honeymooners and families who want fewer safari moves. Genuine room privacy depends on the exact room and its outlook, not the word beachfront. Child suitability depends on the camp’s policy, room occupancy, vehicle seating and flights; the adult-sharing price is not a child or family quote. A smaller number of places does not remove the scheduled-air luggage limit.

Family prices are individually configured against ages at travel, room occupancy, flight rules where applicable, park fees and the vehicle required. Do not apply the adult-sharing figure to a child or assume that two children can use the same room arrangement at every camp. A six-adult case is not a family quotation.

Luggage, access and preparation

Both scheduled sectors use the confirmed carrier’s baggage rules, currently modelled around 15 kg combined in soft bags. Pack for safari and beach within that limit. A hard suitcase, substantial camera kit or independent luggage forwarding needs a separately confirmed arrangement.

Check tent paths, aircraft steps, room access and the beach approach before booking if assistance is needed. Sand and tides can make the shoreline difficult to use. The beach property does not provide an assumed supervised children’s programme.

Bring light layers, sun protection, practical footwear, a camera and binoculars if you use them. Early game drives can feel cool. Confirm charging arrangements for essential equipment; a property offering electricity or Wi-Fi does not guarantee continuous power or a strong connection in every room or wildlife area. Ask about important dietary needs before confirmation. Questions about Mara & Diani Escape

How many full safari and beach days are included?

There are two complete Mara days and three complete Diani days. Nairobi arrival, the two scheduled-air movement days and final departure take the other four days. Four beach nights do not equal four full beach days.

Is this private even though we fly?

The Nairobi and coast transfers and Mara safari vehicle are private for your party. The scheduled aircraft, camp, beach property and general facilities are shared with other travellers.

Does the Mara–Diani flight always go nonstop?

Do not assume it. The carrier operates a scheduled coast service with specific strip calls and coast stops; the booked routing and Ukunda arrival are confirmed with your travel arrangements.

Why might we leave camp early for a late-morning flight?

Reserve departure and airstrip transit rules can require an earlier handover than the flight time alone suggests. The final plan confirms those rules and any mandatory access. It does not promise a free extra morning game drive before the coast flight.

Are the Diani meals all inclusive?

No. The planned coast basis is breakfast and ordinary dinner. Lunch on the Mara–coast movement day is included, but lunches on the three full beach days, drinks and optional activities are additional unless the accepted quotation says otherwise.

Do we fly home from Ukunda or Mombasa?

Ukunda is the planned arrival airport for Diani. The base package ends with a private transfer to Mombasa’s Moi International Airport. Your onward flight is separately arranged, and any necessary Nairobi connection must be assessed before ticketing.

Is the Diani room guaranteed to face the sea?

No. Beachfront describes the property’s setting, not every room’s outlook. The confirmed quotation identifies the room category. A sea-view room, cottage or private pool is an explicit upgrade if chosen.

Can we take a large beach suitcase?

The bush flights determine the luggage allowance, currently modelled around 15 kg combined soft luggage per traveller. Extra bags, equipment or forwarding need advance confirmation and may cost extra.

Is a balloon flight included?

No. It is an optional extra for a suitable full Mara morning, subject to weather, availability and operator rules. The coast-transfer morning is not the sensible default for that additional activity.

Can families or honeymooners use the same itinerary?

Yes, where the actual rooms, ages and activities fit. Families receive an age- and occupancy-based quote. Honeymoon room privacy and celebration details are agreed specifically; neither changes the route into a duplicate package.

What happens if bad weather changes a flight or boat outing?

The operating airline or activity provider decides whether it can run safely. Your coordinator helps revise handovers and explains any changed services or costs under the booking terms. The package does not guarantee reimbursement for every disruption.

Can we add more beach nights?

Usually this can be requested, subject to room availability, the final transfer and onward flight plan. Extra nights are quoted separately and do not change the standard nine-day route advertised here.
