This safari starts at an agreed Nairobi accommodation, usually around 07:00–07:30 on Day 1. It is not built around stepping off a long-haul flight and immediately driving to the Mara. A prior Nairobi night and a separate JKIA arrival transfer can be added. The final day returns by road; ask us to assess your onward flight before booking it.

Private reserve drives from arrival, where timing allows, and two complete wildlife days. Choose split drives with a camp break or a longer picnic route within the included access.

Day 1: Nairobi to the Maasai Mara

Planned start: Approximately 07:00–07:30, after you have had breakfast.

Meet your driver-guide, confirm the day’s route and load the vehicle before leaving Nairobi. There is time for a toilet and refreshment stop en route; tell the guide early about motion sickness or another practical need. Lunch is included, at camp if the arrival works or as an arranged packed/route meal. After check-in and a short rest, aim for an arrival drive around 15:30–18:00 if road conditions have left enough time. Finish with dinner at camp and agree tomorrow’s start with your guide.

Road movement: Approximately 250–300 km and 5.5–7.5 hours, with comfort stops. City traffic, the chosen approach and the final uneven camp roads affect arrival. Scenic stops are brief and depend on safe stopping places.

Usable experience time: Primarily a road-transfer day; one possible afternoon drive, not a full safari day.

Day 2: Two viewing periods with a proper midday break

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30 for the first drive, adjusted to gate and daylight conditions.

To: Same Mara camp

Start with tea or coffee and an early drive, returning for breakfast unless you have agreed a breakfast pack. Your guide chooses the route from current conditions: a grassland circuit, riverine edge or a return to an area that held your interest. Lunch and a longer rest break are at camp. Head out again around 15:30 and return before the applicable evening access deadline, usually around 18:00. The vehicle is for your party, so there is room to pause, discuss what you are watching or shorten the outing when someone needs a break.

Day 3: Choose a longer Mara day or return for lunch

Planned start: Approximately 06:30 for a picnic safari; otherwise agree the split-drive plan the previous evening.

To: Same Mara camp

This is your second complete wildlife day. A longer outing with packed lunch lets the guide explore farther from camp without a midday return. Alternatively, repeat the morning-and-afternoon pattern and spend the hottest hours resting. If a river sector is worthwhile for your dates, discuss the extra driving and waiting involved before setting out. The route follows wildlife and conditions rather than a fixed checklist. Lunch is included in either format. Return with enough time to freshen up before dinner and pack for the Nairobi journey.

Day 4: Return to Nairobi

Planned start: Approximately 07:30–08:00 after breakfast.
From: Talek-area camp
To: Your agreed Nairobi accommodation or JKIA

Check out after breakfast and begin the road journey back. This is a return-transfer day, with no additional reserve game drive included. Your guide aims for a mid- to late-afternoon Nairobi handover, but road conditions determine the actual arrival. We must review any same-day international ticket before you buy it; an early flight is incompatible with this road return. A Nairobi overnight may be the more comfortable choice. If your agreed handover is at JKIA, the safari ends at the departure terminal.

Road movement: Approximately 250–300 km and 5.5–7.5 hours, plus any additional city/airport traffic. Plan toilet and refreshment stops and a lunch stop at your own expense.

The Talek location suits reserve viewing. It is not a Mara North conservancy stay, and no conservancy-only night-drive entitlement is implied.

When to travel

January–February and the generally drier middle months can suit a focused Mara stay. July–September can be busy, and migration movements are variable. March–May commonly brings more rain, with greener scenery and slower tracks; shorter rains can affect parts of October–December. The resident-wildlife purpose of this trip does not depend on migration timing. Your actual camp dates and access are checked before confirmation.

Who this journey suits

Choose this route if you want two proper days in the Mara without moving between safari camps. Couples and first-time travellers can set their own interests. Families need enough drive tolerance for the two Nairobi–Mara journeys; a private vehicle permits stops but does not make a six-hour journey short. A fly-in alternative is a separately scoped change, not a promise at the road-safari price.

Family prices are individually configured against ages at travel, room occupancy, flight rules where applicable, park fees and the vehicle required. Do not apply the adult-sharing figure to a child or assume that two children can use the same room arrangement at every camp. A six-adult case is not a family quotation.

Practical information and booking

Luggage, access and preparation

There is no bush-flight weight allowance on this road-only package. Pack soft, manageable bags and agree the luggage volume, especially with four or six adults. Keep binoculars, camera batteries, a sunhat and water accessible. A bag limit imposed by your international airline still applies to those flights.

Expect uneven reserve tracks and a step into the safari vehicle. Ask for room-path, bathroom and boarding information before booking if mobility or access is a concern. A camp beside wildlife habitat is not a supervised playground; children need close adult supervision.

Bring light layers, sun protection, practical footwear, a camera and binoculars if you use them. Early game drives can feel cool. Confirm charging arrangements for essential equipment; a property offering electricity or Wi-Fi does not guarantee continuous power or a strong connection in every room or wildlife area. Ask about important dietary needs before confirmation. Questions about Mara in Focus

Does the four-day safari include a Nairobi arrival night?

No. The base journey starts with pickup at your agreed Nairobi accommodation on Day 1. We recommend reaching Nairobi in time to sleep before that early road departure. A prior night and JKIA transfer can be added to the quotation.

How much of the trip is spent on the road?

Plan around 5.5–7.5 hours each way between Nairobi and the Talek-area camp, with traffic and stops adding variation. Days 2 and 3 are complete Mara days. The return day is not sold as another full safari day.

Will we share the vehicle with other guests?

The booked road and safari vehicle is for your own party, with a professional driver-guide. The camp, reserve roads and wildlife sightings are not private-use spaces.

Can we take full-day drives or return to camp for lunch?

Both can work on the two full days. Discuss the distance, wildlife conditions and your party’s comfort with the guide. A picnic circuit takes you farther; split drives allow a proper camp break.

Is this a conservancy safari?

The planned Talek-area base supports Maasai Mara National Reserve viewing. It is not a Mara North conservancy package, and it does not include conservancy-only night drives or unrestricted off-road driving.

Are the reserve fees included?

Yes, for the planned viewing days and access in the quoted programme. An extra entry, additional day or changed route must be confirmed and costed before it is added.

Will we see the Great Migration or all of the Big Five?

Neither is guaranteed. The Mara has wildlife interest beyond migration season. Seasonal herd movements, weather, animal behaviour and chance determine what you encounter.

Can a family take this route?

Potentially, after checking ages, camp room arrangements, vehicle seating and tolerance for the long road days. Child pricing is not derived by multiplying or discounting the adult-sharing figure automatically.

Can we add a balloon flight?

Yes, subject to the chosen operator’s availability, conditions and participation rules. It is an additional paid experience, best placed on a full Mara morning, and replaces part of the ordinary drive programme.

Can we fly to the Mara instead?

A flight-based alternative can be scoped, but it changes transport, transfers, luggage rules and the cost. The advertised package is the four-day private road journey.

Can I fly internationally on the return evening?

Possibly, but the road return and JKIA check-in need a generous reviewed buffer. Do not book an early onward flight based on an optimistic road time. An extra Nairobi night may be the better arrangement.

How are accommodation changes and booking conditions handled?

The quotation names the confirmed camp or agreed standard, room category and inclusions. Any proposed substitute must preserve the relevant location and experience. Payment timing and cancellation conditions are explained before you accept; sending an enquiry does not hold rooms.
