Your JKIA pickup follows your international flight. After clearance, allow around 30–90 minutes to the Nairobi base, with more time if traffic requires. Day 2 is a 4.5–6-hour road journey to Amboseli. On the final day, Wilson–JKIA is a separate private road transfer, often around 45–120 minutes; onward ticketing needs a proper check-in and disruption buffer.

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi and settle in

Complete entry formalities and collect your luggage before meeting the representative at the agreed landside meeting point. Your joining instructions identify the person/contact to use if you cannot immediately find the driver. Travel privately to your accommodation, complete check-in and use the remaining time to rest. The following morning is a road departure, so keep this first evening simple and confirm the luggage you will take on the later safari flights. Dinner is included; for a late landing we arrange an appropriate late or light meal with the property rather than assume the restaurant will remain open. No attraction or game drive is scheduled today.

Road movement: Approximately 15–25 km from JKIA to the planned Nairobi base; allow around 30–90 minutes after meeting your driver. This excludes immigration, baggage reclaim and customs. Traffic or road works can extend the transfer.

Day 2: Private road journey to Amboseli

Planned start: Approximately 07:30–08:00 after breakfast.

To: Amboseli / Kitirua camp

Leave with your private transfer driver and travel towards Amboseli, stopping for comfort breaks. Lunch is included, at camp or as a planned packed meal if arrival runs late. Meet the resident camp team and your regional guide, settle into your tent and rest. An afternoon drive around 15:30–18:00 is planned if arrival and energy permit. Your resident guide then looks after the Amboseli wildlife programme; the transfer driver is not necessarily your guide for the whole journey. Dinner is at camp.

Road movement: Approximately 230–270 km; allow 4.5–6 hours with stops. The last stretch and the approach to the camp can be rough. Traffic leaving Nairobi and gate formalities add variation.

Day 3: Amboseli elephants, wetlands and open country

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30; agree breakfast in camp or a breakfast pack.

To: Same Amboseli camp

Use the cooler morning for a private drive through the permitted park route. Watch how animals use the wetland edges and open country, with time for the guide to explain behaviour rather than simply move between sightings. Return for breakfast or take the meal as agreed, then have lunch and rest at camp. A second outing around 15:30–18:00 allows a different light and direction. A clear mountain view would be welcome, but it is not the condition on which this day succeeds. Dinner and your airstrip-transfer briefing follow.

Road movement: Private local wildlife loops; distance depends on sightings and the permitted route rather than a fixed transfer mileage. Tracks can be uneven, dusty or muddy.

Day 4: Fly from Amboseli to the Mara

Planned start: Approximately 07:45–08:15 camp departure for the current morning service; final pickup follows the ticket.

To: Mara North Conservancy

Have an early breakfast and take the private transfer to the airstrip in time for the carrier’s reporting requirement. After landing, meet your Mara resident guide at the identified strip and transfer privately to camp. Lunch and check-in come before any afternoon outing. If you arrive in good time, a shorter conservancy drive introduces the new habitat; otherwise settle in and protect tomorrow’s full day. Dinner is at the Mara camp.

The current published pattern is around 09:15–10:30; multiple stops can alter your actual sector. Allow roughly 3–5 hours from camp checkout to the next camp. Day 5: A complete Mara day, with the reserve excursion included

Today is allocated to the one main-reserve excursion included in this itinerary. Take breakfast and lunch as packed or camp meals according to the agreed route, and use the day to explore beyond the conservancy base. Your guide discusses how far to travel, where to stop and when to return; no river crossing or particular species is promised. If you prefer a conservancy-focused day with a midday break, agree that change before the reserve access is purchased. Return to camp for dinner and the following day’s flight briefing.

Road movement: Private conservancy-to-reserve access and local viewing. Depending on the gate and wildlife area selected, reaching a reserve sector can take roughly 1–2 hours each way; driving while repositioning is not treated as continuous wildlife viewing.

Day 6: Fly to Nairobi and complete the safari

Planned start: Usually around 09:15–10:00 camp departure for the planned late-morning flight; your ticket and strip determine the time.

To: Wilson Airport, then your agreed Nairobi accommodation or JKIA

Have breakfast, check out and travel to the strip with your regional guide. A full morning drive is not included before this flight. Your Nairobi transfer driver meets the arriving service at Wilson and takes you to the agreed handover point. Wilson is a different airport from JKIA: there is no airside walk-through between them. We review onward flight reporting time, road transfer and disruption allowance before confirming a same-day international connection. Lunch and dinner after the safari are your own arrangements.

Road movement: Allow roughly 30–60 minutes to the ticketed Mara airstrip. After landing at Wilson, a private city/JKIA transfer may take around 45–120 minutes; choose a larger buffer when traffic or onward check-in requires it.
Scheduled-air movement: Shared scheduled Maasai Mara–Wilson service; currently a late-morning pattern around 11:15–12:15 is published. Allow approximately one hour in the air, with changes possible for intermediate strips. Pack around 15 kg combined luggage per traveller in soft bags; the ticketed carrier’s allowance controls. When to travel

January–February and June–October often suit this two-region comparison, with dates selected around actual accommodation and flight operations. Rain can affect tracks and bush-air operations, especially during the longer rains, while the green landscape has its own appeal. The Mara’s migration season may add herds to the possibilities; it does not guarantee a crossing. Amboseli’s mountain backdrop depends on cloud at any time of year.

Who this journey suits

This is a compact premium choice for people who want Amboseli and the Mara without the long road journey between them. Its camp tier, private regional vehicles, conservancy base and scheduled flights explain the difference from a shared road circuit. With only one full day in each wildlife region, travellers wanting more downtime or repeated viewing should add nights or consider a longer approved route. Families need property-specific age and room checks.

Family prices are individually configured against ages at travel, room occupancy, flight rules where applicable, park fees and the vehicle required. Do not apply the adult-sharing figure to a child or assume that two children can use the same room arrangement at every camp. A six-adult case is not a family quotation.

Luggage, access and preparation

Use the ticketed carrier’s allowance, currently modelled around 15 kg combined soft luggage per traveller. The road journey into Amboseli does not remove the limit on the later aircraft. Declare long lenses, medical equipment and unusual bags before booking; excess carriage or an extra seat requires prior confirmation.

Light-aircraft steps, uneven paths and vehicle boarding may need assistance. Explain access needs before accepting a camp and aircraft combination. A standard tent category does not guarantee a level approach or an accessible bathroom.

Bring light layers, sun protection, practical footwear, a camera and binoculars if you use them. Early game drives can feel cool. Confirm charging arrangements for essential equipment; a property offering electricity or Wi-Fi does not guarantee continuous power or a strong connection in every room or wildlife area. Ask about important dietary needs before confirmation. Questions about Amboseli & Mara Airlink

Is Amboseli & Mara Airlink entirely a flying safari?

No. Day 2 reaches Amboseli by private road transfer. Scheduled flights then connect Amboseli with the Mara and return from the Mara to Wilson. This avoids the long Amboseli–Mara road leg without pretending the trip contains no driving.

How many full days do we have in each wildlife region?

One in Amboseli and one in the Mara. Two nights at each base allow possible arrival-afternoon viewing, but a transfer day is not counted as a full safari day.

Are the flights private?

No. The standard aircraft are shared scheduled services and can call at more than one airstrip. Your transfers, resident safari vehicles and agreed ground guiding are private to your party.

Why is this different from a cheaper six-day road safari?

The scope combines premium planned camps, private regional camp vehicles, a Mara North base, a reserve excursion and scheduled air for two movements. Compare those inclusions and the actual number of full wildlife days, not duration alone.

Is Kilimanjaro visible every morning?

No. Cloud can hide the mountain. Amboseli’s elephants, wetland habitats and guiding remain the core of the chapter even without a clear mountain photograph.

Does the Mara stay include both conservancy and reserve access?

Yes. The planned base is in Mara North, and one main-reserve excursion is included. That outing includes access driving and can be a long day; further reserve visits require an agreed change.

Can we take larger luggage because we drive to Amboseli?

The later small-aircraft sectors determine what you can bring. The current planning basis is around 15 kg combined soft luggage per traveller, subject to the ticketed carrier. Extra cameras or luggage require advance arrangement.

Is it suitable for young children?

Suitability depends on the actual camp policies, room layout, aircraft arrangements, seating and your child’s needs. We assess ages at travel and provide a family quotation rather than assume the adult configuration works.

Can we add a balloon flight with only two Mara nights?

It may be possible on the full Mara day, but it replaces part of that morning and affects the reserve excursion. Consider whether the additional experience or more ordinary wildlife time matters more to you.

What happens if my international arrival is late?

Tell the journey team promptly. They reassess the arrival handover and following road departure. A significant delay can require an extra room or changed services; availability, supplier terms and any additional cost are explained rather than guaranteed away.

Can we connect from Wilson straight to an international flight?

Wilson and JKIA are separate airports. The package includes the agreed private transfer, but the flight arrival, traffic, international reporting time and disruption buffer must work together before the onward ticket is confirmed.

Can we add another safari night?

Yes, subject to camp and flight availability and a revised quotation. An extra night is often more useful than trying to add another region to this compact itinerary.
