After a Nairobi arrival night, transfer to Wilson for the northern service. Loisaba airstrip is close to the planned camp, approximately 15 minutes by road. The Loisaba–Mara day can take roughly 4–7 hours door to door when stops or a connection are included. On departure, Wilson and JKIA require a separate private road handover and a reviewed onward-flight buffer.

An eligible camp walk can replace a drive where included, safe and available; it is not an unrestricted entitlement to every advertised activity.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi and settle in

Planned start: Scheduled around your confirmed international arrival, not a fixed daily pickup.

Complete entry formalities and collect your luggage before meeting the representative at the agreed landside meeting point. Your joining instructions identify the person/contact to use if you cannot immediately find the driver. Travel privately to your accommodation, complete check-in and use the remaining time to rest. The next stage begins at Wilson. Your arrival briefing focuses on the light-aircraft baggage allowance and the two conservancy bases ahead. Dinner is included; for a late landing we arrange an appropriate late or light meal with the property rather than assume the restaurant will remain open. No attraction or game drive is scheduled today.

Road movement: Approximately 15–25 km from JKIA to the planned Nairobi base; allow around 30–90 minutes after meeting your driver. This excludes immigration, baggage reclaim and customs. Traffic or road works can extend the transfer.

Practical note: Rooms follow the confirmed check-in terms. An early-morning landing may need a paid prior night or day room. Send flight changes promptly; the team can coordinate a revised handover, but extra rooms or replacement tickets are not automatically free.

Day 2: Fly north to Loisaba / Laikipia

Planned start: Approximately 08:00–08:30 pickup for the current 09:45 Wilson service; final time is ticket-specific.

Eat breakfast, check the soft bags and meet your private transfer driver. At Wilson, allow time for baggage weighing and the carrier’s departure process. On arrival in the north, your resident regional guide meets the booked flight and brings you to camp. Have lunch, settle into the room and take a rest during the warm part of the day. An afternoon private drive around 15:30–18:00 is planned when timing permits, followed by dinner. Loisaba is the base for the next three nights; this is not a transfer to Nanyuki town.

Road movement: The nearby accommodation–Wilson transfer is usually around 5–10 km / 15–30 minutes; more time is allowed if traffic requires. At destination, the planned Loisaba camp is about 15 minutes from its airstrip; allow longer if viewing or track conditions slow the approach.
Scheduled-air movement: Shared scheduled Wilson–Loisaba service, with the current northern schedule allowing about one hour to the first stop. Additional airstrip calls can extend your journey. Aim to report at Wilson at least 60 minutes before departure, or earlier if instructed. Pack around 15 kg combined luggage per traveller in soft bags; the ticketed carrier’s allowance controls. Cameras count towards the applicable allowance; extra equipment needs prior arrangement.
Usable experience time: An air-transfer day, normally around 3–5 hours from Nairobi departure preparations to camp; one possible afternoon drive.

Day 3: Explore Loisaba with your resident guide

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30, with breakfast timing agreed in camp.

Begin a private wildlife drive through the conservancy’s varied terrain. The purpose is to understand this landscape as well as look for animals: the guide can connect tracks, vegetation and the use of water to what you see. Return for breakfast if it was not packed, then have lunch and a proper camp break. A second drive around 15:30–18:00 explores another area in different light. Dinner is at camp. Your room and shared camp areas offer places to rest; a private pool is not implied by the base room.

Day 4: A second Loisaba day with room for interpretation

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30 for a drive; any alternative activity has its own briefing and start.

Use the second full day to follow a different route or spend longer on the interests that emerged yesterday. A morning and afternoon private drive remain the included foundation. An eligible guided walk may replace a drive when offered within the confirmed camp programme, with the appropriate guide, age and safety rules. Walking, riding and cycling are different activities with different requirements; specialist or charged options are agreed and priced before participation. Lunch and a rest break separate the morning and afternoon. Return for dinner and the Mara flight briefing.

Day 5: Fly from Loisaba to the Mara

Planned start: Approximately 09:30–10:00 departure from camp, adjusted to the operating flight.

Have breakfast, complete checkout and let the guide reconfirm the service before leaving for the strip. The two camps coordinate lunch: it can be a packed meal during a longer connection or a late meal after arrival. Your Mara resident guide meets the actual landing strip and transfers you privately to camp. Take a short orientation drive only if the final arrival leaves a sensible window; a late arrival is followed by dinner and rest. This is a movement day, even if the aircraft passes over wildlife country.

Road movement: Allow around 15–30 minutes to Loisaba airstrip. At the Mara end, plan about 30–60 minutes from the matched airstrip to camp; the selected strip is confirmed with your accommodation.
Scheduled-air movement: Shared scheduled Loisaba–Maasai Mara service. The published northern pattern is around 11:00–13:00, but intermediate stops and a Wilson connection/through-service can apply. In a connected pattern, Mara arrival may be later in the afternoon. Allow roughly 4–7 hours door to door, not just the airborne portion. Day 6: A full day in Mara North Conservancy

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30 for a private morning drive.

Compare the Mara’s grassland setting with the hills and varied terrain of Loisaba. Spend the morning observing the wildlife you find, allowing your guide to interpret behaviour and the relationships between species. Return for lunch and a rest, then take an afternoon outing around 15:30–18:00. Conservancy access is governed by its own rules; the camp can explain any permitted walk or later activity included in your confirmed arrangement. Have dinner and discuss whether tomorrow’s included reserve excursion should be a longer picnic circuit.

Day 7: Add the main reserve’s wider landscape

Planned start: Approximately 06:15–06:30 for the planned reserve excursion.

Take the included reserve excursion with breakfast and lunch arranged around the route. It adds a different access area to the conservancy stay, not a promised migration event. Your guide weighs current conditions, driving distance and your interests before choosing where to go. If you prefer another day close to camp, discuss that before reserve arrangements are committed. Return for dinner and prepare for the Wilson flight. There is no need to add an optional experience simply to fill the day.

Road movement: Allow roughly 1–2 hours each way to a selected reserve sector, depending on the gate and route, plus local wildlife driving. A more distant river area can make this a long vehicle day.

Day 8: Fly to Nairobi and complete the safari

Planned start: Usually around 09:15–10:00 camp departure for the planned late-morning flight; your ticket and strip determine the time.

To: Wilson Airport, then your agreed Nairobi accommodation or JKIA

Have breakfast, check out and travel to the strip with your regional guide. A full morning drive is not included before this flight. Your Nairobi transfer driver meets the arriving service at Wilson and takes you to the agreed handover point. Wilson is a different airport from JKIA: there is no airside walk-through between them. We review onward flight reporting time, road transfer and disruption allowance before confirming a same-day international connection. Lunch and dinner after the safari are your own arrangements.

Road movement: Allow roughly 30–60 minutes to the ticketed Mara airstrip. After landing at Wilson, a private city/JKIA transfer may take around 45–120 minutes; choose a larger buffer when traffic or onward check-in requires it.
Scheduled-air movement: Shared scheduled Maasai Mara–Wilson service; currently a late-morning pattern around 11:15–12:15 is published. Allow approximately one hour in the air, with changes possible for intermediate strips. Pack around 15 kg combined luggage per traveller in soft bags; the ticketed carrier’s allowance controls. Cameras count towards the applicable allowance; extra equipment needs prior arrangement.
Usable experience time: Flight, waiting and city transfer. Any incidental viewing on the way to the strip is not another safari session.

A balloon morning replaces part of the usual drive programme and needs a separate transfer plan; it is not an additional full safari day.

Riding, camel outings, cycling or specialist activities where suitable and offered on a confirmed paid basis; a Mara balloon flight; an exact room upgrade or special meal. A specialist sleep-out, a helicopter or a separate private-property experience are not part of the base accommodation plan.

When to travel

January–February and the generally drier June–October period can be good candidates for the combination, subject to exact camp operations. Rain changes tracks and vegetation and can alter walking or other activities; flights are also weather-dependent. Conservancy wildlife is the main purpose of the trip, not a guaranteed migration encounter. The planned reserve outing is one option within the Mara chapter, rather than a requirement to chase distant herds.

Who this journey suits

This journey suits travellers who value three-night camp stays, guiding and the setting of each base. The premium camps, conservancy access, private vehicles and scheduled air explain its position; it is not a shared-group bargain. Families need age and room checks, especially if walking or riding is important. Couples can protect downtime without removing one of the four full wildlife days.

Family prices are individually configured against ages at travel, room occupancy, flight rules where applicable, park fees and the vehicle required. Do not apply the adult-sharing figure to a child or assume that two children can use the same room arrangement at every camp. A six-adult case is not a family quotation.

Luggage, access and preparation

The current planning basis is about 15 kg combined soft luggage, with the actual carrier’s allowance controlling each sector. Confirm large camera equipment or medical items early. A connection does not create an additional automatic baggage entitlement.

Ask about tent access, room position, aircraft boarding and the specific surfaces involved in any proposed walk. Riding or cycling requires its own ability and safety assessment; it should never be inferred from willingness to join a game drive.

Bring light layers, sun protection, practical footwear, a camera and binoculars if you use them. Early game drives can feel cool. Confirm charging arrangements for essential equipment; a property offering electricity or Wi-Fi does not guarantee continuous power or a strong connection in every room or wildlife area. Ask about important dietary needs before confirmation. Is Laikipia the same as Loisaba?

Laikipia is the wider region; Loisaba Conservancy is the specific planned base for this journey. The itinerary does not include every Laikipia conservancy or an Ol Pejeta visit.

Why spend three nights at each camp?

Three nights give two full days between the arrival and departure movements. That makes space for wildlife, rest and an eligible alternative activity without changing accommodation every morning.

Are all activities at Loisaba included?

No. Private vehicle viewing is the foundation. Any included guided walk follows the confirmed camp package and safety rules. Riding, specialist activities and other charged options must be identified and priced before you book them.

Does this include a specialist sleep-out or an upgraded camp?

No. The accommodation basis is premium tented safari accommodation in Loisaba Conservancy. A specialist sleep-out, upgraded camp or specific room experience requires an explicit, separately priced change rather than being assumed from the conservancy name.

Will the conservancies be empty of other visitors?

No. A conservancy setting and an exclusive vehicle do not give your party exclusive use of the area. Other camps and vehicles operate under the local rules, and sightings can still be shared.

Is the main Maasai Mara reserve included?

One planned reserve excursion is included in addition to Mara North conservancy access. It can mean a longer day because of the access drive. More reserve entries need an agreed change.

Does Loisaba–Mara always fly direct?

No. A scheduled through-service, intermediate calls or a Wilson connection may apply. The final airstrip and itinerary are confirmed when booking; allow much of that day for movement.

What makes this more expensive than a standard road circuit?

The scope uses two premium conservancy camps, exclusive resident vehicles, conservancy access and three scheduled-air movements. The comparison should account for those services and four full wildlife days, not just an eight-day label.

Can children join the walks or riding?

Only if the actual provider accepts their age and ability and the conditions are suitable. Give ages at travel and the activities that matter to you before booking. A family room or flight rule also needs its own check.

How is luggage handled across the three flights?

The ticketed carrier’s rule governs each flight, currently modelled around 15 kg combined soft luggage per traveller. Extra camera or medical equipment needs prior confirmation; a connecting flight does not create more allowance.

Can we add a balloon safari?

A Mara balloon flight is a separate paid option on an appropriate full Mara morning. It replaces part of the ordinary programme and follows the operator’s weather, participation and availability conditions.

Can we end at the coast instead of Nairobi?

A coast extension can be designed and quoted against actual flights and rooms. It is not included in this eight-day conservancy route; the full Kenya Passage is a different, longer product.
